Holiday Sing-In – December 9th, 5:30–6:00 p.m.

Families are invited to join us for a relaxed and inclusive Holiday Sing-In held in the Commons. This event is perfect for families who may prefer an alternative to traditional caroling and is hosted in partnership with the Boys & Girls Club. Students who attend the Boys & Girls Club may participate as part of their programming that evening. Families who wish to join the event but do not attend Boys & Girls Club must have a parent or adult in attendance.

Traditional Holiday Caroling – December 11th, 5:45–6:45 p.m.

Traditional Holiday Caroling – December 11th, 5:45–6:45 p.m.
Our traditional neighborhood caroling will take place on December 11th, weather permitting. We will gather in the Commons at 6:00 p.m., where Mr. Atchison will lead the group through the Oliver Brown neighborhood. All students must be accompanied by a parent or adult. Caroling will conclude at 7:00 p.m. back at Oliver Brown, where hot chocolate and cookies will be served.

5th Grade Makers Market – December 11th, 4:30–5:45 p.m.

Before we head out for our traditional caroling, our 5th graders will be hosting their annual Makers Market! This special event showcases the creativity, problem-solving, and hands-on skills students have developed in our Maker Space.
Each student has designed and created unique items to sell—ranging from handcrafted ornaments and artwork to simple inventions, décor, and fun gifts perfect for the holiday season. Every piece is student-made and full of personality!

All proceeds from the Makers Market go directly back into the Maker Space to support future projects, tools, and materials. By shopping at the market, families help keep our creative programming thriving for all students.

Come enjoy the creativity, shop for one-of-a-kind items, and help our Maker Space grow!

Recess & Cold Weather Reminder

As we head into colder weather, we want to share a quick reminder about our district recess policy. Students will have indoor recess when the temperature or windchill is below 20°F, when the heat index is over 100°F, or when ground conditions are unsafe. During indoor recess, teachers will provide appropriate activities to keep students engaged.

Whenever the temperature or windchill is 20°F or above, students will go outside, so it’s important that they come to school with appropriate winter clothing, such as coats, hats, and gloves

Dismissal Updates

With the arrival of colder weather, have fewer walkers and bike riders and more car riders. As the car line grows, we ask that parents please keep all driveways and intersections clear for neighborhood residents.

Families are also welcome to use our parent walk-up option. You can park in the school parking lot and walk to the front of the building to meet your student.

Please remember that all transportation changes need to be called in to the front office by 3:00 PM each day.

Thank you for helping dismissal run safely and smoothly for everyone.

This Month in Specials

LIBRARY
In library, our digital citizenship lessons are focused on online safety. Library literacy lessons are focused on fiction vs. nonfiction for K-2 and primary and secondary sources for 3-5.

ART
The art room is filled with all things winter this month! Students are currently working on a collaborative hallway mural. In addition to the hallway mural students will complete and work of art ready to take on the winter snow! Early expression art was due this week. Thank you to all parents who allowed their students to participate. We are anxiously awaiting the results of this art completion. For those who are not familiar, Early Expressions is a district art completion that is judged by outside judges. I will let you all know when we have those results back!

MUSIC
K, 1, and two are beginning to meet our state music standards of creating and performing alone and with others.
3,4, and 5 are beginning work on programs and beginning winter assessments. All are excited about our Boys and Girls Club sing along Tuesday, and Christmas Caroling next Thursday. (Must have a parent to attend!) See details in this newsletter and Parent Square.

P.E.
Over the next two weeks in P.E., we have some exciting activities planned! Students will be playing “Night at the Museum,” a favorite game that helps build teamwork, spatial awareness, and quick decision-making.
After that, we’ll wrap up the unit with a variety of fun choice games, giving students the opportunity to pick activities they enjoy. This is a great way to keep everyone active, engaged, and moving as we head toward the end of the term.

2nd Grade Balloons Over Broadway

Our 2nd graders read Balloons Over Broadway and then brought the story to life by designing and creating their own balloons for a schoolwide parade. Their creativity and attention to detail was truly impressive. It was wonderful to see students take pride in their work and share their imaginative creations with the whole school. Great job, 2nd grade, on such a fun and colorful celebration!
