A Few Important Notes:

Thank You Families
Thank you to all of our families who joined us for Parent-Teacher Conferences! We truly value the time to connect, celebrate student progress, and talk about goals for the months ahead. Your partnership makes such a difference — when families and teachers work together, students thrive. A heartfelt thank-you also goes out to our amazing PTO for organizing and providing delicious meals for our staff during conferences. Your generosity and thoughtfulness were felt and appreciated by everyone!

November Focus: Your Words Matter
Throughout the month of November, our schoolwide theme will be Your Words Matter. Students and staff will be exploring how the words we choose can have a powerful impact on ourselves and others. Lessons and activities in each classroom will help students reflect on what it means to think before they speak, express gratitude, and use kind, respectful language — both in and out of the classroom. We’re excited to see the positive ways this focus will continue to shape our school community.

Reminders for Families
As the weather turns colder, please remember that school doors do not open until 8:15 a.m., and supervision is not available before that time. To help keep everyone safe and comfortable, we ask that students not arrive early, as staff members are preparing for the school day and are not yet available to monitor students. We appreciate your help in making sure children arrive right at or after 8:15.

We’d also like to remind families that any end-of-day transportation changes should be called into the office by 3:00 p.m. This allows us to make sure all updates are communicated to teachers and students before dismissal. Thank you for helping us keep our afternoons running smoothly and ensuring every child gets home safely.

We are so grateful for your continued partnership and support — it truly takes all of us working together to make our school a great place to learn and grow.

Warmly,
Mrs. Cook

Ms. Lopez and Mrs. Whitten on Bison Stampede Day

Meet Our 5th Grade Team!

Mrs. Whitten has been at Oliver Brown since we opened. Prior to that she taught multiple grades and, in several states, thanks to the US Army. She and her husband returned to Manhattan after his retirement. Mrs. Whitten enjoys gardening, watercolor painting, listening to books, traveling, cheering on the KSU Wildcats and the Chiefs, and spending time with her four children and two grandsons.

Ms. Lopez is currently teaching her GOLDEN year! She's in her fifth year of teaching 5th grade all here at Oliver Brown. She is originally from Kansas City where she grew up with her 5 siblings. When she’s not in the classroom, Ms. Lopez enjoys reading, running, and traveling. She also loves spending time with her boyfriend and her German shepherd, Gael. At home, you can often find her caring for her plants or getting creative with her Cricut machine.

Art

Hi Bisons, this month of November we will continue creating all things fall. We will also all complete a patriotic picture to celebrate our veterans!
We are also excited to share that some of our student’s artwork is currently on display at Radina’s on the Hill and the Manhattan Public Library!
  • The exhibit at Radina’s will be up until October 31st, so stop by soon if you’d like to see it!
  • The Public Library exhibit will remain up until November 21st
  •  If your child’s artwork was included in either show, you were sent a message on ParentSquare, however I would encourage everyone to stop in and check out the amazing artwork and grab a hot coffee and check out a good book!
During conferences, your child’s teacher may have given you a permission slip for our upcoming Early Expressions Art Show at the Beach Art Museum. This is an exciting opportunity for students to share their creativity with the community! If you were unable to make it to conferences, keep an eye out for the permission slip coming home with your student.
